EUROP, EURON & EC: "Closing the Gap"
EUROP, EURON and the European Commision: joining forces to empower the European robotics industry
For the first time the three key players in the robotics field (EUROP representing the industry, EURON representing academia, and the European Commision) came together and upheld a united front for the standpoint of European robotics. This powerful alliance was a major win for all three parties. The joint gathering was just the first of many more to come.
The session "Robotics in Europe" was held during the International Symposium on Robotics on March 10, 2009, in Barcelona, brought forth what has been of key importance to the robotics industry, academia, and the European Commision all along: closer industry-academia collaboration is the cornrer stone for bringing the European robotics industry forward. All speakers representing the three organizations emphasised their willingness to join forces and close the gap between industry and academia.
The session "Robotics in Europe" showed that all three organizations share the same goal: "Empowering the European Robotics Industry".
The Euoprean Commission playing a major role in this process is actively seeking to promote a structured dialogue between the key industrial and academic players. Substantial support for widespread experimentation by academic researchers on industrial robotic platforms is already planned for the near future by the Commission.
